Oekotex Standard 100 Class 1

Stella Rubino only deals with raw material suppliers that comply with STANDARD 100 certification by OEKO-TEX®.  This is a worldwide consistent and independent system for raw, semi-finished, and finished textile products.

The OEKO-TEX® tests for harmful substances are based on the respective purpose of the textiles and materials. The more intensive the skin contact of a product and the more sensitive the skin, the stricter the human-ecological requirements that need to be complied with. This is why we only deal with suppliers that obtained the PRODUCT CLASS 1 certification to ensure a safe and healthy product to sleep on.

The Stella Rubino latex range complies with the euroLATEX ECO-Standard. This standard for latex foam cores has been developed by the European Latex Foam Manufacturers association in close cooperation with one of Europe’s leading and most reputable scientific institutes, i.e. TFI (Deutsches Teppich-Forschungs Institut in Aachen, Germany). The ECO-Standard defines the maximum acceptable limits of substances considered harmful to health that could occur in latex foam cores. This is based upon scientific data and stringent limits from other standards. The substances that are tested for include:

• Heavy metals
• Nitrosamines
• Pesticides
• Solvents
• Volatile organic components

The value of the euroLATEX ECO-Standard has been recognised by the European Commission and it has been copied into the Commission Decision 2002/740/EC “establishing revised ecological criteria for the award of the Community eco-label to bed mattresses”. EuroLATEX believes this standard represents a major advance in ensuring healthier sleeping wherever latex foam is used.

Morton Tiokol

Tests carried out by the Morton Thiokol Research and Development Institute in Massachusetts indicated that the SR latex foam products have an anti-fungal and anti-bacterial action, as is underscored by report n° 87-304.

Research into the durability and elasticity of Stella Rubino products, in accordance with LGA (Landesgewerbeanstalt Bayern) guidelines and the current European standard, resulted into a score of 100%. The minimum value for obtaining an LGA certifi cate is 80%. These tests prove that our products excel in durability and elasticity and comply with the durability criteria for the award of the Ecolabel according to the European guideline (2002/740/EC).
